  • January 4th Week update

    Fri 29 Jan 2021 Headteacher
    Dear Parent/Carer
Another week gone! Once again, I want to say a huge well done to all of you who are working so hard to support your child with their home learning. All the staff understand how difficult it is but please keep going and encouraging your child to have a go at all their daily tasks. Remember to have plenty of breaks between tasks like we do in school - you and your child! Don't forget to have hot toast at ten o'clock!
One highlight this week has been seeing pupils from different classes at home joining in with various Zoom sessions and connecting with their class. Please don't forget to keep in touch with the class teachers via ClassDojo and also if you need support with any of the home learning or other things.
Geography Quiz to finish the week - Have a look at this drone photograph of Wheatcroft School which was taken last year by one of our former pupils. See if your child can find their classroom, their playground, the school hall, Wheaties, the KS1 and KS2 gazebos and the adventure trails.
Have a peaceful weekend and please stay safe.

  • January 3rd Week Update

    Fri 22 Jan 2021 Headteacher
    Dear Parent/Carer
The end of January is in sight and it is good to see the mornings getting lighter as well as at the end of the school day.
I hope all of you are managing to keep yourselves safe as well as looking after your mental health and well being. Class teachers are enjoying catching up with families at home on the phone and this week we have managed to speak to all but three families. If a voicemail is left from school, please ring us to let us know you are ok.
Feedback has been very positive from most families about our daily home learning tasks and most of you are managing to access all the resources. Today, we have sent home the first set of government computers to families who were struggling without access to IT devices. If your child has not got easy access to an IT device, please get in touch with school. Only a quarter of the technology surveys were returned so we have responded to those families first.
Home learning - just to be aware that most teachers are in school every day teaching their class Bubble which means that contact through phone or Dojos works really well for those learning at home throughout the day. Live Zoom lessons for Zumba are working well for all pupils in Year 4, 5 and 6 on a Friday afternoon as well as Zoom catch ups from other classes. I've attached one of my favourite photographs sent via ClassDojo of one of our Year 1 pupils doing his home learning in his school uniform! Keep sending in photographs of work at home - we love seeing how your child is getting on.
Take care and please stay safe.

  • January -2nd Week Update

    Fri 15 Jan 2021 Headteacher
    Dear Parent/Carer
Congratulations! Most of you have risen to the challenge and very successfully supported your child through their second week of home learning. I really enjoy seeing all the daily work posts you are sending back to teachers - thank you and please do keep this going. Once again, it was great to see home learning pupils in Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 joining in the virtual Zumba session with pupils in school this afternoon led by Mrs Sweeney-Chisholm.
It is a lot quieter in school with only 22% of pupils attending but I am also delighted to see how hard these children are working in their class Bubbles.
It was wonderful to see this beautiful rainbow over the school taken by Mrs Ellard this week. I hope it will be a reminder of hope for all of us as millions of people have have received their Covid vaccinations over recent weeks.
Please stay safe and keep following the government guidance.
    Have a peaceful weekend.

  • January - First Week Update

    Fri 08 Jan 2021 Headteacher

    Dear Parent/Carer
I am delighted to see the quality of daily home learning you have managed over this first week of national lockdown - Well done to you and the pupils!
It is fantastic to see all of the responses on ClassDojo and to see the lovely photographs of pupils in action with their work. I know how difficult this first week has been for everyone and once again, I am so proud of how quickly you've adapted to the new way of home learning and shown resilience.

I also know for some families without good technology (computers, tablets, laptops), it has been a real challenge. Please will every family complete the Technology Home Learning survey and email it back to school asap so that we can try and support the few pupils who need access to the internet and resources to keep in touch with their class teacher. I have deliberately asked teachers to set work that does not need printing off as I know many of you do not have printers. Please get in touch if you feel you need some resources printing and posting.
The main message is to try and get your child to do the posted daily learning tasks and get into a good work routine. If you are struggling, please Dojo us and we will try and help.
Please stay safe and keep following the government lockdown rules. Have a lovely weekend.

  • Critical Workers

    Tue 05 Jan 2021 Headteacher
    Dear Parent/Carer
Thank you very much for responding so promptly to my late text/email last night and for your supportive comments at such a difficult time.
In the Parent section of the website under Newsletters, I have loaded the latest Government list of Critical workers. If your job is on this list, your are entitled to apply for your child to attend school during the National Lockdown over the next six weeks.
We will need to know numbers of pupils who will be attending Wheatcroft from tomorrow as soon as possible and ask that you message your child's class teacher before 12pm today with a brief description of your job and the days you work. Please note your child can only be offered sessions when you are at work.
If it is at all possible for your child to access daily home learning throughout this Lockdown, I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TO KEEP YOUR CHILD SAFE AT HOME.

Class teachers will be posting DAILY LEARNING for their class as well as videos and access to a wide range of learning resources. Please note, we are expecting that all pupils will engage with the daily learning tasks so that they do not fall behind during this second school closure.

Our school day from tomorrow will run from 8.30am and finish at 3pm. For any children attending school, it is likely that they will be put in a mixed year group Bubble and may NOT be taught by their class teacher. As I did last March in the first Lockdown, I will have minimum school staff on site to reduce transmission risk.
If you have further questions, please text, email or ring school today.
Thank you for your support in keeping all our families and staff safe.

  • SCHOOL CLOSED-Tuesday 5th January

    Mon 04 Jan 2021 Headteacher
    Dear Parent/Carer
Many of you will have just heard the very sad news from our Prime Minister at 8pm that we will be entering a national lockdown as we did in March last year. This means that for most of our pupils, home learning will be running from tomorrow until February half term.
I have taken the decision to CLOSE WHEATCROFT to all pupils tomorrow (TUESDAY 5th JANUARY) so that staff can prepare 6 weeks worth of both home learning and also work for key worker and vulnerable pupils who will be attending school from Wednesday 6th January. Class teachers will contact each family tomorrow morning and we would ask that you let us know if you are a key worker according to the Government criteria. We will invite vulnerable pupils in and message those parents/carers.
Al the staff started the day looking forward to seeing every child tomorrow morning. On behalf of all the staff and Governors, I am so sorry for having to share this awful news with you tonight.
As we did last year, we will all pull through this together, working closely as a caring Wheatcroft school community and hopefully come out stronger than ever.
Take care every one of you.
