  • Town Hall Debate

    Thu 27 Jun 2019 Headteacher

This morning, seven of our Year 6 pupils participated in a Schools Council Meeting at the Town Hall chaired by the Deputy Mayor of Scarborough and other members of the cabinet.

The topic for debate was Upcycling and Re-use and our impact on our environment. Our pupils were a credit to the school and their families and presented their information very well as well as asking thoughtful questions. They were presented with certificates by the Deputy Mayor. Congratulations to all the pupils for the hard work over the last month making all the items and doing their research.

  • Year 4 Visit to Bempton Cliffs

    Wed 26 Jun 2019 Headteacher

Year 4 enjoyed a wonderful visit to the RSPB reserve at Bempton this morning.  The children became ornithologists for the morning and were issued with a pair of binoculars and then taken to the towering chalk cliffs to observe a huge array of sea birds and their habitats.  Afterwards, the children then spent time learning about the food chains.

A highlight for all the children was spotting the puffins battling with their flying in the wind!

See photographs here and the rest on the Class 4 page.

  • KS2 Sports Day

    Thu 20 Jun 2019 Headteacher

All four Key Stage 2 classes enjoyed a warm and dry afternoon of different sports.  After the disappointment of yesterday's weather and cancellation, today was perfect for Sports Day and the childrens' participation and achievement was great to see.

As usual, over the first hour, the children moved round sixteen different potted sports including: long jump, vortex throws, netball shooting, target throws, penalty shooting and various relays.  At the end of these, Cornelian were in the lead with 1647 points.  After the running races which included sprints, relays and lap, Holbeck lead the races with 73 points.  The final totals were:

    1st place Cornelian 1693 points

    2nd place Holbeck 1499 points

    3rd place Seaview 1405 points

    4th place Deepdale 1361 points

The Jubilee Sports Cup was presented with the red ribbons attached by Mr Taylor to the winning Year 6 pupils. Then, along with the rest of the Y5, Y4 and Y3 Cornelian pupils, the cup was paraded down the running track.

My thanks to all the families who came and supported this afternoon and to the PTA for providing welcome refreshments.

Thanks to all the staff and their families, Year 2 pupils and governors for their help this afternoon and to Mrs Hillion who organised both our Sports Days this week.

  • Key Stage 1/Bluebells Sports Day

    Mon 17 Jun 2019 Headteacher

Congratulations to all the children in Bluebells, Class 1 and Class 2 for their excellent participation in this afternoon's sports day. It was really good to see lots of children displaying school character traits such as courage and resilience. Despite starting the day with grey skies and a little drizzle, we ended with blue skies and sunshine!

After 45 minutes of potted sports, we finished with sprint races on the running track with most of the children choosing to take part.

Well done to all the pre school children for their race and for all the adults who participated in the ladies and gentleman's race congratulations!

Thanks to all our families for their great support shown to all the children and to the PTA for serving refreshments.

It was great to see that all four houses achieved over 1000 points this year. Results were: Seaview 1391 points in first place

    Deepdale 1320 in second place

    Cornelian 1175 in third place

    Holbeck 1051 in fourth place.

  • Summer Music Concert

    Thu 13 Jun 2019 Headteacher

Last night, pupils from the School Orchestra, Singing Squad and instrumentalists entertained their families with a wide range of music from famous film scores to George Ezra!

The school hall was transformed into a relaxed cafe style venue and despite the unseasonal weather outside, there was a warm atmosphere inside.

Solo and group instrumentalists performed including: clarinet, saxophone, trumpets, piano, violins and cellos along with the School Orchestra during the first half and then the School Singing Squad performed songs telling the story of the Ancient Greek hero Odysseus.

Congratulations to all the pupils for their wonderful musical performance and a big thank you to all the families who supported the children so well last night.
