  • Attendance Party 2018

    Tue 17 Jul 2018

On Tuesday morning, we had our annual Attendance Assembly to celebrate pupils who have managed to achieve more than 98% up until the 16th July.

This year 67 pupils or 32% achieved that including 18 pupils  with 100% attendance.  The winning class was incredibly close with Class 1 beating Class 4 by 0.01% with 96.56%.

The children were then treated to a party.

Congratulations to all the children and their families.

  • Jubilee Garden

    Tue 17 Jul 2018 Headteacher

Over the course of this year, we have been undertaking a renovation of our Jubilee Garden in preparation for Wheatcroft's Golden Jubilee year.

The work started last Autumn term with a Year 6 Gardening Gang, families and staff who cleared a lot of the overgrown plants and trees.  In May this year, the new planting was done and water feature installed.  The PTA have kindly agreed to pay for the beautiful water feature.

One of the last things to be done was the painting of the seating area which Class 4 have done today.  Miss Andrews' class designed some flowers in sketch books and then painted the seat.

We are still hoping to add some more seating and plants next year.

This afternoon, to start our Golden Jubilee celebrations, former staff from Wheatcroft visited, some of whom were there for the Silver Jubilee of the school 25 years ago. The newly renovated garden was formally opened by former Deputy Head Mr Wright along with the Year 6 Gardening Gang who have done a lot of work in the garden over the year.

It was a lovely celebration which all the former staff, current pupils and staff really enjoyed.

  • Year 6 Children's University Graduation

    Fri 13 Jul 2018 Headteacher

We enjoyed an amazing evening at Scarborough's Spa last night, as 26 of our Year 6 pupils graduated from the Children's University at a very special celebration evening.  Last year, 39% of our Year 6 pupils graduated but this year 90% of our Year 6 class graduated - congratulations!  Well done to Milly and Lewis who prepared a speech and delivered it to a packed Grand Hall all about their experiences doing Children's University.

Over the last two years, pupils have been collecting learning hours by participating in a wide range of learning activities by doing lots of extra curricular activities at school (before, during and after the school day) as well as outside of school with their families. Thank you to our families for all their support last night.

  • Off Site Visits

    Thu 12 Jul 2018 Headteacher

Over this half term, all our pupils have enjoyed some excellent off site visits connected to their Linked Learning/Topics.  These visits and the use of our Locality School Driver really engage and enthuse learning for all our pupils.

Bluebells visited Peasholm Park and the North Bay beach and lots of welly walks, Year 1 visited Sledmere House/Farm and  the Spa for a music concert, Year 2 went to Sewerby Hall and the South Bay beach, Year 3 visited Scarborough Castle and the South Bay beach, Year 4 have been to Dalby Forest, the Italian Gardens and Bempton RSPB reserve, Year 5 visited the Castle Museum in York and Year 6 have enjoyed Hit the Surf, Crucial Crew, the Harbour Bar and will be going to Ask to make pizzas!  In addition, we have had four workshops from the Stephen Joseph Theatre including a Samba and Stone Age workshop!

These visits particularly enhance the children's love of learning about geography, science, history, art as well as promoting our school character traits.

All our visits are heavily subsidised by the PTA and I want to say a huge thank you for all their hard work this year.
