  • Ukrainian Fundraiser

    Fri 11 Mar 2022 Headteacher

    Dear Parent/Carer
    Two words-THANK YOU!
We have been totally overwhelmed by the generosity shown by Wheatcroft families today for their compassion and support of our fundraiser for the Ukrainian people affected by war.
An incredible £950.87 has been raised by pupils, families, staff and governors today. We have never raised that amount of money in the school's 54 year history! The children and staff looked amazing in the blue and yellow colours of Ukraine and we hope that this money will bring some relief for those people suffering as well as all the love we all send.
I hope you enjoy the photographs of the whole school forming the symbol for peace that we made this morning. Ask the children who took the photograph!
On another positive note, it has been wonderful to see our classes mixing together outside on the playground and field for the first time since March 2020.
    Have a peaceful weekend.

    Miss Hartley x

  • March update

    Fri 04 Mar 2022 Headteacher

    Dear Parent/Carer
It has been a very exciting week for our Year 5 class who thoroughly enjoyed their three day residential visit to East Barnby. All the children made such positive progress in their confidence, teamwork and resilience through dealing with all the outdoor adventure activities (see photographs) as well as being away from home. Usually, this visit is done in Year 4 but because of the pandemic, we have now caught up our Year 6 class last term and now Year 5. It is Year 4's turn in three weeks!
It was lovely to see how well World book day went yesterday and how the children engaged with the book swap and having the chance to read new ones. Thanks to Mrs Kirby for organising our celebration of this national event.
I hope all our of you managed some quality family time over the half term week and are looking forward to Spring and more time outside.
    Have a lovely weekend.
    Miss Hartley

  • Y5 visit to East Barnby

    Wed 02 Mar 2022 Headteacher

    Wednesday 2nd March

We enjoyed our final breakfast at East Barnby and headed off to the forest near the Falling Foss waterfall for our shelter building activity.  The children chose their teams and set off on designing and making a shelter within 45 minutes!  The end results were really creative and all very different and we were very pleased with all the endeavour shown by some very tired children.  After our final lunch back at the East Barnby Centre, the staff waved us off on journey back to school after a memorable three days.

    Tuesday 1st March

Everyone has enjoyed a good night’s sleep & the sun is shining & brilliant blue sky above our heads. The children have enjoyed a good breakfast & we are about to get our gear ready for canoeing down the River Esk!
    I’ll update again after tea.

6.30pm We've had an amazing day canoeing down the River Esk and all the children gained huge confidence as the journey went on. (see new photographs). Our staff are very proud of the childrens' achievements today.  When we returned to the centre, all the children took part in sledging.  Everyone enjoyed their tea (fish and chips, mushy peas or chicken curry and rice, salad and chocolate crunch and custard for desert! The bonfire is lit and we are about to go outside and toast marshmallows around the campfire and sing some songs and then bed.

    Monday 28th February

We have just finished a delicious pasta tea following a very successful beck scrambling visit this afternoon.  Everyone, (including staff) got very wet and cold feet and legs and some pupils managed to get wet all over!

The children have really thrown themselves into this afternoon's adventurous activity and worked well in their three teams.(See photographs)

Because of the rain, we will be sledging tomorrow and hopefully having the campfire too.

I will update you tomorrow teatime when hopefully all the duvets have found their way inside their covers!
