  • Autumn Funky Friday

    Fri 20 Oct 2017 Headteacher

We had a geography themed Funky Friday activity this morning with all children engaged with making different sorts of maps, using maps and carrying out research.

Class 1 made an outdoor giant scale model of the Scarborough coast and then drew maps of their construction.  Class 2 made jigsaw maps of the United Kingdom.

In Key Stage 2, children chose an activity from the following:

make a pirate map and use grid references,

use google earth to find out out about different world features,

use atlases and the internet to find out about their favourite sports star's country and make a geography fact sheet,

use maps to do orienteering around the school grounds,

    Zumba/Dance around the world and

look at maps from classic books eg the Hobbit to design and make their own imaginary kingdom!

  • Harvest Festival 2017

    Thu 19 Oct 2017 Headteacher

The children have put in some wonderful performances at our Harvest Festivals this week.  The quality of singing and narration was excellent and we have had very positive feedback from many families - thank you!

Thank you to everyone who sent in food, money and other items for the Rainbow Centre.  Trish Kinsella from the Rainbow Centre attended our performances and spoke about how the items will be used and how very much they are needed.

  • Jubilee Garden Restoration

    Wed 11 Oct 2017 Headteacher

One of the most beautiful parts of our school grounds used to be the Jubilee Gardens outside the hall doors. This peaceful area was set up to celebrate the school's Silver Jubilee nearly twenty five years ago.

As it is the School's Golden Jubilee (50 years) next year, our plan is to restore this garden back to its former glory and further improve it for the present and future Wheatcroft pupils.

An intrepid group of Year 6 pupils, some parents, grand parent and staff volunteered to start clearing out the weeds and overgrown plants on Tuesday after school and we have now completed three sessions. This work will continue over the school year and any help or contribution of plants/seating would be gratefully received. Please let the school office know if you can help at all.

See photographs of the work so far and note the before and after photographs!

  • Off site visits

    Mon 09 Oct 2017 Headteacher

Our children have enjoyed some exciting off site visits this half term including: a geography visit to Flamborough Head and a science visit to the South Bay beach by Year 6, a beach art morning by Year 4 and a technology visit to Engineering week at the Spa by Year 5.  Other classes have also been using the school grounds for autumn walks and science work.  Using the Locality is one of our three school drivers and helps us make learning real and exciting!
