  • School at Home -1st Week

    Thu 26 Mar 2020 Headteacher

I do hope this first week of Learning at Home is going well for all of you.

It has been fantastic to see all of your posts on Dojos of activities you are doing at home as well as outdoor things - please do keep this up!

On the school website, don't forget that there are some really good online activities in the Kids Zone as well as the list of website links that was in your home learning pack. The BBC has some great activities to support all year groups.

The most important thing is to try and do some basic skills work most days including: some reading and phonics work, practising spellings for your year group, handwriting and number/tables practice. The other important thing to do is get some fresh air everyday whilst staying a safe distance from others.

  • SCHOOL CLOSURE 3.10pm Friday 20th March

    Wed 18 Mar 2020 Headteacher
    Dear Parents/Carers
You will now be aware from the Prime Minister's announcement a few minutes ago that the decision has been taken to CLOSE ALL UK SCHOOLS from this Friday at the end of the school day.  I am so very sorry as I know what upset this will cause for all our families and staff. The government has asked that schools support those families who are 'Key Workers' including NHS staff and the emergency services.  Please can any parent who is in this category contact school tomorrow and let us know your intentions.  We have prepared a Learn at Home pack for every pupil and will be giving these out tomorrow.  Any family who is currently self isolating will have the pack posted.  I have also asked staff to keep in contact via Dojos and the school website during this unknown period.
I can only ask that we all work together for the sake of our children and try and stay calm and positive.
    Miss Hartley
  • Year 6 SJT Play

    Tue 17 Mar 2020 Headteacher

This afternoon our Year 6 pupils put on a fantastic performance of their own scripted play based on the theme of 'The Challenge' to the whole school. Different scenes retold different stories of pupils facing challenge in lots of different areas. Mrs Thompson directed the play following three months of hard work by pupils writing and rehearsing. There were some amazing dance sequences choreographed by Mrs Sweeney-Chisholm which created a West End theatre experience!

Sadly, the play was due to be performed at Scarborough's world famous Stephen Joseph Theatre on Thursday but the theatre has had to close due to the Coronavirus epidemic.  We have videoed the performance so all Year 6 families will be able to see the play.

See photographs.  More will be loaded on this week

  • World Book Day

    Thu 05 Mar 2020 Headteacher

We have had a lovely World Book Day today and enjoyed a school full of authors!. Pupils and Staff dressed up as authors and Mrs Earle organised a massive readathon at 10am when pupils chose a book they wanted to hear read by a member of staff.

In total, fifteen books were on offer from: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to The Boy in the Dress, The Water Babies to The Hobbit, The Philosopher's Stone to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs to Mr Majeika and the Music Teacher, There's a Werewolf in my school to Mr Stink, How to train your dragon to What the Ladybird Heard and Five on a Secret Trail.

  • Walk On Wednesdays - WOW

    Wed 04 Mar 2020 Headteacher

    Wednesday 4th March

Another very successful morning - thank you to everyone who supported us once again.  There were very few cars seen outside school this morning.

See photographs from this morning. We have increased the number of raffle tickets to 144 pupils (71%)+ 2 governors and 4 staff. BRILLIANT!

That's North Yorkshire TV were also filming this morning.

We had a great start to our new road safety campaign on Wednesday with 140 raffle tickets being issued to Wheatcroft pupils who have walked, taken a bus ride and walked or parked and walked to school.  This means that 2/3 or 67% of Wheatcroft pupils enjoyed a healthy start to their school day as well as keeping cars away from the school.

Walk on Wednesdays will run every Wednesday until the Easter holidays and we hope that we can keep cars away from our school at the beginning and end of every school day.  PLEASE KEEP SUPPORTING US.
