  • Golden Jubilee Party

    Fri 28 Sep 2018 Headteacher

Pupils, staff and governors celebrated the Golden Jubilee this afternoon with cakes, drinks and a special whole school 50th anniversary photograph on the Key Stage 2 playground. After school, PTA members served cakes and drinks for families as the beautiful Autumn sunshine was enjoyed by everyone.

Wheatcroft school opened fifty years ago on the 9th September 1968 with 146 pupils on roll. There were just five teachers and five classes and Miss Kathleen Nilson was the Headteacher. In September 2018, we have seven classes, 208 pupils with over thirty staff working at the school!

Thanks to our school caretaker Mr Hanson for climbing the ladders on to the school roof for the wonderful photographs!

The Jubilee day started with a wonderful double rainbow over the school which was photographed by Mrs Kirby.

Year 6 and Year 4 have enjoyed two off site visits already this September with Year 6 undertaking science work in the rock pools of South Bay and Year 4 having a go at Beach craft work.

Our school Locality Driver means that we try to use the local area for curriculum visits as much as possible to enthuse the children's learning.

  • New School Council Representatives

    Tue 11 Sep 2018 Headteacher

Over the course of the first week, each Key Stage 1 and 2 class elect their own school council representatives.  The school council meets every term with Miss Hartley and a governor to share ideas about how to make the school even better from playground equipment to extra- curricular clubs.

Congratulations to all the new representatives who had to prepare and present a short talk to help the class decide who would represent them best.

The new representatives are: Sonny, Isla, Jake, Nula, Izzy, Joshua, Libby, Alfie, Betsy, Charlie, Izzy, Maria, George and Izzy.

  • New House Captains

    Tue 11 Sep 2018 Headteacher

During the first week of the new year, Year 6 pupils have elected the new house captains for the year ahead.  Congratulations to Alex, Jayden, Lucas, Libby, Ellie, Mia, Saskia and Reuben.

At Wheatcroft, we have four houses: Seaview (blue), Cornelian (red), Holbeck (yellow) and Deepdale (green).  House points are awarded for achievement in all areas of school life.  Every week, the House Points trophy is given to the team with the most points from all KS1 and KS2 classes.

In assemblies this week, we have been thinking about teamwork and how important it is to help the school be a happy place where everyone can work together.
