Class 5
Welcome to Year 5!
There is lots to look forward to this year - new topics, new skills and new adventures. Mrs Cattle is the class teacher this year and Mrs Chapman and Miss Smelt will be supporting the learning each day. Mr Collins and Miss Andrews will teach the children on Friday afternoon.
This will be a really great year and we want you to make the most of it. Being a year 5 pupil comes with great responsibilities. You must set the highest standards of behaviour at all times and have a determined work ethic. This year, developing independence will be especially key in everything we do. In return, we will be having lots of fun in our learning. Make the most of every opportunity....and enjoy this special year.
P.E will be on Mondays and Tuesdays - Please bring appropriate kit for the varying weather conditions.

Homework
Year 5 children need to draw on all of the learning skills they have developed during their time at Wheatcroft. The children will be expected to do at least half an hour of homework each weeknight, incorporating 10 minutes of reading, 10 minutes of spelling practice and 10 minutes of times tables.
Children have been given a reading record and school reader which they are able to change every Monday. In addition to this we are keen to encourage a love for reading and they are able to read their own books. Below you will find a recommended reading list of books for Year 5 should you need any ideas for great texts. In Year 5, the children are able to fill out their own record but ask for a parent to sign them still. Six spellings from the list below will be given out each week to children in class each week we will also focus on a different spelling rule to help the children become confident and able spellers.
