Class 5

Welcome to Year 5

There is lots to look forward to this year - new topics, new skills and new adventures.  Mrs Cattle will be the class teacher this year.  Miss Smelt and Mrs Chapman will be supporting our learning each day. Miss Andrews and Mr Collins will teach the children on Friday afternoons.

This will be a really great year and we want you to make the most of it.  Being a year 5 pupil comes with great responsibilities. You must set the highest standards of behaviour at all times and have a determined work ethic.  This year, developing independence will be especially key in everything we do.  In return, we will be having lots of fun in our learning.  Make the most of every opportunity....and enjoy this special year.  smiley

P.E will take place on Monday's and Tuesday's please ensure you bring the correct kit for the varying weather conditions.

Homework

Year 5 children need to draw on all of the learning skills they have developed during their time at Wheatcroft. The children will be expected to do at least half an hour of homework each weeknight, incorporating 10 minutes of reading, 10 minutes of spelling practice and 10 minutes of TTRs.

The children have school readers and records, these will be changed every Monday. In year 5, the children are welcome to complete their own records but we ask for a parent to sign it. Encouraging a love for reading is very important and we encourage the children to read their own books also and record this in their records. A recommended reading list for Year 5  can be found below if you need ideas for new books. Spelling lists will be sent out each Monday these will consist of 6 of the year 5 & 6 statutory spellings. A different spelling rule will also be looked at in class each week.
