Welcome to Year 1!

In Year One, Miss Harper is the class teacher and the class is supported by Miss Warrington and Miss McGlinchey. Mrs Silby supports Year 1 each afternoon. Mrs Hayes teaches RE and visits the library on a Wednesday afternoon. 

The children come into school and start their busy day with handwriting and learn through a topic based approach. The children are taught a discreet phonic session, number sense session, literacy and mathematics on a daily basis. They also make use of the hall and MUGA in PE. 

We enjoy using our outside learning area to support our topic based learning and to build upon the school character traits.

We are busy into our second term in Year 1 and we are learning about the Artic and Antartica. The children are enjoying looking at maps to find countries that they know, including the UK.

We have been finding out about Thor, the Walrus that came to visit us in Scarborough. In History we are finding information about famous explorers, Ranulph Fiennes and Captain Scott.
