Remembrance Day - WW1 Centenary
Over the course of this week, all our classes have been doing work on Remembrance and learning about poppies and the centenary of the end of the end of the Great War in 1918. Mrs Hayes organised a special Remembrance board in school which all the classes have contributed poppies to with people and animals they wanted to remember (see photograph). Mrs Earle collected over 200 poppies made by each class and put them into a 100 banner which is attached to our Filey Road fence (see photograph of Year 2 with the banner). Year 1 made poppy pebbles and Year made a 3-d poppy from cardboard.
As always, we held a special Remembrance assembly which included all pupils taking part in a two minute silence. Year 6 pupils George, Lucas, Mina and Cassie read John McCrae's Flanders Field poem from 1915. We also sang our remembrance song -We will Remember accompanied by Year 6 pupils as well as playing the national anthem.
