Vision, Values and Ethos

Our Vision – Learn and Care

At Wheatcroft Community Primary School our vision is underpinned by our values of Respect, Integrity, Courage and Perseverance, which guide every part of school life. We want all our pupils, both academically and personally, to be:

Confident, curious and compassionate learners who are ready to make a positive difference to the world around them.

We believe every child has the right to an education that inspires them to aim high, think deeply and act kindly. Through an engaging, inclusive and values-led curriculum, we prepare our pupils not only for academic success but for life — equipping them with the knowledge, skills and character to thrive in a changing world.

Living Our Mission: Learn and Care

Our mission and values live through daily school life:

  • In lessons that challenge and inspire curiosity.

  • In acts of kindness and teamwork that strengthen our community.

  • In leadership roles such as House Captains, School Council and Eco Council.

  • In whole-school projects — from our Climate Action Plan to community outreach — that connect learning with real-world impact.

Through our shared commitment to Learn and Care, we shape learners who are resilient, thoughtful and ready to make a positive difference — now and in the future.

Our Core Values

Our school community is built around four guiding values which shape everything we do — from classroom learning to playtime, assemblies, leadership and community life.

Respect

We treat everyone with kindness, fairness and empathy.
Respect underpins our relationships — with each other, our environment, and our wider community. Pupils learn to listen carefully, appreciate differences, and celebrate the contributions of others.

Integrity

We do the right thing, even when no one is watching.
Integrity helps us build trust and honesty across our school. Pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their actions, show reliability in their learning, and develop a strong moral compass that guides their choices.

Courage

We are brave learners who take risks, ask questions, and face challenges with confidence.
From performing in assemblies to tackling new ideas in class, we encourage pupils to embrace mistakes as opportunities for growth — building self-belief and resilience along the way.

Perseverance

We never give up when things get tough.
Through encouragement, reflection and determination, pupils learn the power of persistence. We celebrate effort as well as achievement, knowing that progress comes through practice, patience and positivity.

Our Ethos

Wheatcroft CP School is a welcoming and inclusive community where every child is known, valued and supported to succeed. We are proud to serve our local area and to reflect its warmth, diversity and spirit of togetherness.

We work in partnership with families, governors and the wider community to ensure that every pupil — regardless of background, need or starting point — experiences success and develops a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.

Our ethos is one of high expectations, mutual respect and shared responsibility. We believe in:

  • Excellence for all: every child achieving their personal best.

  • Character and contribution: developing learners who are confident, thoughtful and community-minded.

  • Curiosity and creativity: inspiring imagination and deep thinking across the curriculum.

  • Belonging and wellbeing: ensuring our school is a safe, supportive place where everyone can flourish.

Living Our Values

Our values live through the daily life of our school:

  • In lessons that encourage discussion, reflection and ambition.

  • In playgrounds where pupils play fairly and include others.

  • In leadership opportunities such as House Captains, School Council and Play Leaders.

  • In community initiatives like our Climate Action Plan, local partnerships and enrichment projects.

Together, these values shape our school where children grow as learners, leaders and global citizens, ready to make a positive difference in their own lives and the lives of others.

Celebrating Our Values: Positive Postcards and Achievement Assemblies

At Wheatcroft, we believe that recognising effort, kindness and positive choices is just as important as celebrating academic success. Each week, during our Achievement Assembly, pupils who have truly lived our school values of Respect, Integrity, Courage and Perseverance are celebrated in front of the school community. Teachers nominate pupils for Positive Postcards, which are sent home to share their achievements with families — a special reminder that their attitude and actions make a difference. Pupils who consistently demonstrate our values also earn badges representing each one, building a visible sense of pride and belonging. Together, these celebrations bring our Learn and Care mission to life, reinforcing that character, effort and kindness are at the heart of everything we do at Wheatcroft Community Primary School.

Our Climate Action Plan

At Wheatcroft, we are committed to building a greener future for our school and community through action, education and care for our planet.

Caring for our planet is an essential part of our mission to Learn and Care.

Our Climate Action Plan 2025-26 (below) sets out how we will reduce our environmental impact, educate pupils about sustainability, and strengthen our school’s resilience to climate change. Through practical projects such as energy-saving campaigns, water-butt installation, uniform recycling, and our new Eco Council and Gardening Club, pupils take an active role in protecting the environment and developing green skills for the future. These initiatives link closely to our school values of Respect, Integrity, Courage and Perseverance — showing respect for our world, courage to take action, integrity in our choices, and perseverance in creating lasting change. Together, we are building a greener, more sustainable Wheatcroft community.
